There is no fixed meaning, we create meaning because we're programmed by natural selection to be afraid of physical and psychological death. A nihilistic life is to be psychologically dead so we have to perpetrate our illusions. Thus everything can be called necessary as anyways purpose is an illusion.
The world obviously was not built with us in mind, matter is a quantum accident and as a result our very existence is an accident of the quantum equilibrium.

A trip is a great experience, but completely unecessary, it has no inherent meaning like everything in life.....
